Thomas Hudson's Story

Here is another opportunity to replace nonsense with commonsense. On 02/16/06 4:59pm, U.S. Newswire ran an article titled: Former Foster Child Goes to Washington; CASA for Children of Washington, D.C. Hires a Former Foster Child - see: http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=61116. The article, as does most articles written about foster care, stresses the importance and need for foster care when dealing with little “abused and neglected” children. The underlying message is that foster care rescues these children from abuse and neglect and provides the much needed safety and protection that all children deserve. Here is the exact quote: “CASA for children of D.C. was created in 2002 to ensure that when the children in our nation’s capital experiences abuse and neglect, they can count on caring adults in our community to lead them to safety.”
Now let me share with you the true safety and protection foster care provided Thomas Hudson of Illinois.

Thomas Hudson entered the foster care system at the age of 13, because according to him his mother drank too much and would become violent. Being a product of the Chicago Public School system and therefore taught to call the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) if there is violence in the home, Thomas called DCFS instead of a loving trusting relative. Unbeknownst to young Thomas, he would find anything but safety and protection in the arms of strangers.

Thomas, like most foster children, went back and forth between foster and group homes. Shortly after entering ‘the system,’ at the age of 13, Thomas was raped. Welcome to ‘the system’ Thomas! At the young age of 13, Thomas was sexually abused by both a man and woman while in the states care. His loving, caring, and protective social worker placed him in a group home with a 17 year old sexual predator! I would love to know what disciplinary actions were taken against the social worker. If current DCFS practices are an indication, the social worker sought refuge under the umbrella of immunity and was promoted to manager.

Thanks to the safety and protection of DCFS, Thomas is now confused about his sexuality and is open to the idea of being with both men and women. I can’t help but to wonder what would have become of 13 year old Thomas if he had been left in the care of his family and not the state. If this is another foster care success story, no thank you!!! Thomas Hudson, if you read this blog, please stop offering support and assistance to the very system that raped you and stole your youth and innocence. Do not aid ‘the system’ in its efforts to victimize and destroy the lives of other children.
